Why is winter a good time to get professional portraits taken?

    In the winter, the lighting is soft and beautiful! During the winter, our days tend to be shorter which calls for earlier sunsets. This is very helpful for families with younger children as shoots are done earlier in the day. In the summer, to get those beautiful outdoor sunset portraits, sessions are later in the evening which typically can be past little ones bed times. If sessions are past bedtime this can also call for a cranky kid, who may not be as cooperative during your session. Winter sessions are great as nap times are usually right before. Your kiddo can get their nap in and be happy and excited for photos when its time.  Locations also tend to be less busy, therefore, we are able to enjoy the scenery, take our time which in return tends to help sessions move more quickly as its easier to capture those beautiful family moments.

The best part...the earlier the sunset, the earlier you are able to go home just in time for dinner!

Lets talk about all the fun winter accessories!

   We know in the winter, weather tends to be a little more chilly, but this is a great time to put on that cute sweater and beautiful scarf and bundle closely with the family. We can capture amazing family pictures all closely bundled together under a blanket, portraits with matching hats, matching sweaters, or even matching boots. During these cold months we are able to accessorize a lot more and photograph a lot of the cute outfits in your closet that you are unable to photograph in the warmer months. This is also wonderful for those who may be a little more subconscious about their bodies and don't like having their picture taken in the warmer months. This may allow you to feel more confident and comfortable in front of the camera. The winter allows you to layer, which means you have multiple looks in your portraits. However, if your one that doesn't like the cold to much, Colorado offers lots of warmer days throughout our winter months. You may get lucky and have a beautiful warmer day but still have the beautiful snowy mountains in the background. 

Sessions we offer outdoors

   We offer sessions in multiple locations across the Pikes Peak region. Some of our favorite locations include Garden of the Gods, Mesa Overlook, Starsmore Nature center and Fox Run park. Our favorite sessions we love to book outdoors are maternity and family photoshoots. These sessions can be done any time of year and always look beautiful during any season. 

What to bring to your outdoor winter session

It's important when booking an outdoor session to make sure you have the essentials ready available. Items we suggest bringing include...dressing in layers, coats, gloves, back up shoes, backup clothes, and scarves, tissues as noses tend to run in the cold and glasses can sometimes fog up, hand and foot warmers and of coarse a hot beverage to help warm you up when the session is over.
