Newborn Sessions
Here at Puddles and Pearls we specialize in Newborn photography. It is our absolute favorite type of session! We love being able to capture your family's newest addition in those first couple weeks of life while they are still so tiny and squishy. Adding a new baby into the family is a big and exciting change in a family's life. We know how special this moment is to our family's. We at Puddles and Pearls strive to give our clients the best photography and portraits during their session! Your newborn will be safe during the entire session as our photographer is trained and certified in Newborn photography.
When is the best time to schedule a newborn session?
We highly recommend scheduling your newborn portrait session as soon as possible. We can schedule these very early on in your pregnancy. Typically, if we schedule during pregnancy, we will hold a tentative date on your due date or one week after your due date. We know babies come on their own time, so once scheduled, we are very flexible with the date. We recommend the best time to get your newborn portraits is between one to two weeks old. We have found that the first two weeks is the best time frame for newborns as they are still very sleepy, squishy and "moldable". When we say "moldable", we are able to get them in those cute and adorable newborn poses more easily as their little bodies are still used to being squished inside the belly. However, we understand things arise or something unexpected may interfere with scheduling your session. We are happy to schedule your session whenever you and baby are ready! No matter when you come in, we will make sure to capture beautiful memories.
Outfit Selection, what should we wear?
At Puddles and Pearls, we know outfit selection can be stressful! Once you schedule your session, we like to come to you for an in-home consultation to help with just that. We will help you coordinate outfits for your entire family. We will bring outfits from our studio inventory to try on and/or help you with selections from your own personal closet. Still not set on those options? Don't fret, we will create a custom online style guide tailored to your taste. We try to make this part of the process very easy for our clients and alleviate the stress of spending hours wondering on what to wear.
Are you too tired to get ready, not sure if you can get ready to be in the portraits?
We understand that our Mama's are very tired after just giving birth. Your body has gone through a lot, there's lots of changes, and your sleep schedule has done a complete 180. we've got you covered at the studio! Don't miss out on being in the pictures because your too tired or have no energy to get ready. We will get you picture ready at the studio! We have a licensed makeup artist that can pamper you and make you feel beautiful from professional makeup to light hairstyling.
How long will a newborn session take?
Newborn sessions typically take around 2-3 hours. When scheduling a newborn session, we like to dedicate that day to your family. We understand that babies are on their own schedule and sometimes may want to snack or snuggle with Mom a little extra. We like to take our time during the session and give baby as many breaks as he/she may need. This allows them to relax and settle in order for us to capture those perfect newborn portraits you desire. We want to ensure we capture those perfect moments, even if it takes a little longer.
What should you expect the day of session?
On the day of the session, we do everything in our power to make your session as smooth as possible. We ask that you try and wait to feed baby until you arrive at the studio. Once you arrive at the studio, we will get baby changed, dressed, and wrapped up so you can start feeding to get your little one all snuggled and relaxed. Once baby is content and ready to go, our photographer will start with baby first or baby and siblings, while our makeup artist starts with Mom. We understand other siblings may not want to wait around very long, so will try and get their portraits in pretty early. That way, once when Mom is ready, we can go right into family portraits. Once family portraits are finished, Dad and other kiddos are free to leave, take a break from the studio, or go do other fun things while we finish up with baby. If family would prefer to stay, that's okay too! We make custom made charcuterie boards for each session along with a variety of drink options. We also have a few toys and are happy to try and occupy and entertain to keep the session going smoothly.
