Colorado Springs Birth Photographer
I am beyond excited to finally be sharing this post! I've been following a number of birth photographers for well over a year now just to see the images they post. I had no intention of trying birth photography because I had always been told it is too hard to do the on call part with young kids. But several months ago I joined a few FB groups for birth photographers and found out that a large majority of the photographers in the group do in fact have young kids at home and have no trouble making it work. Every birth post I see stops me in my scroll and immediately draws me in so I decided to give it a shot.
I absolutely love beautifully posed and artistically edited images, but there is something so much more beautiful in the raw, un-posed documentary images of a family bringing a new baby into the world. The raw emotion and the incredibly overwhelming love a mother feels when the baby she's spent 9 months dreaming about is finally placed in her arms. The look on dad's face as he meets his son or daughter for the first time. Oh how I wish that I had started following birth photographers before I had my babies. I can only imagine how empowering and emotional it would be to bear witness to my own birth story through documentary images.
After months of research and preparation, the time came for my first birth story documentary photography session! I was nervous and anxious and so incredibly excited all at the same time. I left the birth center in complete awe and couldn't wait to pull the photos up for editing. What an incredible experience. Sweet baby Tahlia had such a gentle entrance into the world, she didn't cry once. She popped up out of that water nice and content with big wide eyes just taking everything in! I am so grateful to this beautiful family for trusting me to be such an important part of their birth story.
